Ski & Snowboard Team 2016

Ski & Snowboard Club & Team Winter 2016 Highlights

The Ski & Snowboard Club and Team was finally treated with a season full of powder and perfect weather.  We have grown from 10 students to 65 students in the past five years. What a group!

Ski & Snowboard Club

Students really enjoyed their lessons up at Cypress Mountain this year and improved their skills dramatically. Many of the club members had never skied or snowboarded before. By the end of the season they were carving up the mountain on blue runs.

Ski & Snowboard Team

As for our team, they trained really hard for both slalom and GS terrain competitions this year which brought our female and male snowboard teams close to the provincial championships.  Way to go team!

Included below are photo highlights of the club who made weekly visits to Cypress Mountain as well as photos from the competitions for the team. Thanks to Alpha Wong for providing such great photos.

Whistler Grad Trip

There are also a few photos from the grad Whistler trip where students had a choice of skiing, snowboarding or snow tubing. Students at Bodwell have multiple chances to take part in snow sports on the mountain! It is a great benefit of going to a school in Vancouver that we live so close to such beautiful mountains that have great winter sports.

Vancouver: A Winter's Paradise!

Cypress Mountain offers wonderful day and night skiing not far from Vancouver’s centre. In fact, on clear days you can see over Vancouver’s beautiful coast and skyline. Whistler Blackcomb, on the other hand, takes about 2 hours to reach by car or bus and is the biggest ski resort in North America beating the next biggest by more than double in size.

Bruins Battle Hard at BC Provincial Basketball Championships

The senior boys finished the AAA Provincial Championships with a 2-2 record. The boys narrowly lost by three to the eventual second place team in the first game. The boys finished the Championships on a strong note winning the final two games. The team opened a lot of eyes and left the tournament with the respect of many that attended the tournament. Edward Ahanmisi was selected as the best defensive player of the tournament and will turn his attention to playing basketball in the States. Thank you everyone who supported the team this year.

The photo to the left shows the team with student managers at the Langley Events Centre where the 71st annual 2016 BC Boys High School Championships took place.

Previously, the senior boys won the AAA Howe Sound Championships vs. Sutherland by three points.  The boys completed the Howe Sound season undefeated and proceeded to the BC Boys Championship in Langley. The boys were led by Edward Ahanmisi (AAA Howe Sound Player of the Year and Tournament MVP) and Takeshi Iso (AAA Howe Sound First Team All Star and Tournament All Star).  Arda Coban was selected Tournament All Star as well.  The team had great contributions from Jason Wu and Canberk Gungor as well as the rest of the team.
